Job Overview: A law firm in Seattle, WA, is seeking a motivated and experienced Patent Agent to join its team. The ideal candidate will prepare and prosecute patent applications, primarily in molecular biology. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic legal environment.

Duties:

  • Communicate verbally and in writing effectively with clients, attorneys, and stakeholders.
  • Produce high-quality patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic counsel on intellectual property matters.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Assist with patent litigation and licensing agreements as needed.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop and implement IP strategies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in patent law.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or related field; PhD preferred.
  • Registration with the USPTO is required.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Previous experience in a law firm setting, particularly in intellectual property.
  • Knowledge of patent litigation, opinions, licensing, and due diligence preferred.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and research skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in molecular biology or a related field is required.
  • PhD in molecular and cellular biology or similar discipline preferred.
  • Registration with the USPTO.
