Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Innovation Counsel to support and enhance legal technology adoption and practice innovation across various legal practice groups. This role will play a key part in transforming how legal services are delivered through strategic use of innovative tools, cross-functional collaboration, and development of practice-specific resources. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned legal professional passionate about legal tech and continuous improvement.

Location:

Duties:

  • Provide legal insight and support for the adoption of legal technology initiatives

  • Create practice-specific playbooks to support implementation of innovation tools

  • Organize executive briefings, reports, and presentations

  • Collaborate with innovation, operations, and practice group leadership to set priorities

  • Define goals, metrics, and timelines for legal tech adoption projects

  • Analyze practice workflows with legal project management teams to identify process improvements

  • Support technology pilots, proof-of-concept projects, and deployment efforts

  • Partner with change management to drive communication and adoption within practice groups

  • Maintain and develop practice group-specific legal resources

  • Assist with scaling and automation of legal tools and resources

  • Take on additional duties based on evolving organizational needs

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of legal practice or hands-on experience with legal technology initiatives

  • Member in good standing of the bar or registered in-house counsel in applicable jurisdictions

  • Strong understanding of law firm finance and resource allocation

  • Experience leading or supporting cross-functional projects in legal innovation

  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours, as required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and related legal applications (after orientation)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or non-US equivalent required

Certifications:

  • Active law license in relevant jurisdictions or eligibility for in-house counsel registration

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for legal professionals

  • Experience with law firm systems like iManage, NetDocs, Elite 3E, Intapp, Litera, Lexis, and Thomson Reuters

  • Familiarity with generative AI tools in legal practice is a plus

  • Experience with technology usage data and metrics

  • Capable of developing strong internal business relationships

  • Proficiency in storytelling with data and change management best practices

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments

  • Competent in navigating matrixed environments and driving results
