A law firm seeks a Biotechnology Patent Agent with extensive experience in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution, particularly within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. This position is based in Boston and offers the opportunity to support clients in securing and managing their intellectual property rights through strategic patent services.

Duties:

  • Draft and file patent applications for biotechnology inventions both domestically and internationally.
  • Provide expert patent counseling on intellectual property matters, including patentability, freedom to operate, and portfolio management.
  • Prepare patent opinions and conduct detailed analysis for clients.
  • Collaborate with legal teams and clients to manage intellectual property strategies and ensure comprehensive patent protection.
  • Assist in maintaining and managing client patent portfolios, providing tailored advice to support their business goals.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling within the biotechnology industry.
  • Experience with both domestic and international patent applications.
  • Prior experience drafting patent opinions is highly preferred.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related biological science discipline.

Certifications:

  • Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and research abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects, manage client relationships, and provide strategic IP guidance.
  • Outstanding academic credentials and prior experience in a law firm are highly desirable.
