A law firm in Edwardsville, IL, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Deposition Associate Attorney to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for representing clients who have been injured by asbestos, preparing asbestos disease cases, and conducting depositions. The role involves significant travel across the United States to meet clients, potential clients, and witnesses. The ideal candidate will possess 2-10 years of attorney experience and have a strong background in personal injury or asbestos-related cases.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent clients who have been injured by asbestos exposure.
  • Prepare assigned asbestos disease cases in a collaborative team environment.
  • Travel 80% of the time to meet clients, potential clients, and other witnesses across the United States.
  • Conduct client and witness interviews, both in person and over the phone, to gather and evaluate information.
  • Gather and analyze records such as Social Security, medical, military, and union records.
  • Prepare and conduct depositions of fact witnesses.
  • Summarize and analyze testimony from fact witness depositions.
  • Manage case sign-ups, depositions, and related legal procedures and processes.
  • Perform legal research and writing as needed.
  • Utilize MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook effectively.

Requirements

  • 2-10 years of attorney experience, with preference for experience in personal injury or asbestos-related cases.
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook).
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to problem-solve and strategize effectively.
  • Ability to learn and retain complex industrial and medical information.
  • Compassionate towards terminally sick clients and adaptable to their needs based on health status.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar.

  • Experience with legal procedures and processes related to case sign-ups, depositions, and testimony.
  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities.
  • Excellent interview and deposition skills.
