A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a proficient Patent Agent to enhance its patent prosecution practice. The ideal candidate will bring a solid technical background, with experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications. This role demands exceptional attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to handle multiple assignments efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct due diligence activities, including prior art searches and analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys and clients to ensure accurate and timely patent filings.
  • Manage and prioritize tasks from multiple partners and clients to meet internal and client-driven deadlines.
  • Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other USPTO communications.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios to provide strategic recommendations.
  • Stay informed about changes in patent law and technological advancements relevant to the firm’s practice.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents and reports related to patent prosecution.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution, leveraging technical knowledge to support clients’ patenting needs.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO; Patent Bar eligibility required.
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the respective state.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registration with the USPTO and Patent Bar eligibility required.
  • State law practice license preferred but not mandatory.
