A law firm seeks an experienced and motivated Medical Malpractice Associate Attorney to join its defense team in downtown Indianapolis, IN. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in medical malpractice defense, who is eager to contribute to a collaborative team while managing a diverse caseload. The successful candidate will handle a wide range of responsibilities, from legal research to attending medical review panel meetings and trial practice.

Duties:

  • Conduct written discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and admissions
  • Review and summarize medical records, identifying key facts to support legal arguments
  • Perform in-depth legal and medical research to build case strategies and support defense arguments
  • Meet with clients to discuss case details, updates, and strategy development
  • Attend and represent clients at depositions, mediations, hearings, and medical review panel meetings
  • Prepare and argue legal briefs, motions, and other litigation documents
  • Participate in appellate practice and handle appeals as necessary
  • Represent clients in medical licensing board hearings
  • Support trial preparation and actively participate in trials when needed

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Indiana
  • Strong background in medical malpractice defense or related litigation experience
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to independently manage cases and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and medical professionals
  • Willingness to handle a variety of legal tasks, from discovery to trial

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in good standing with the Indiana State Bar

Skills:

  • Expertise in medical malpractice defense and healthcare law
  • Proficient in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including medical records summaries
  • Ability to conduct legal and medical research with precision
  • Strong client management and interpersonal communication skills
