A law firm seeks an experienced associate attorney for its growing Insurance & Reinsurance Litigation team in Hartford, CT. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of hands-on experience in representing insurers, reinsurers, and intermediaries in complex insurance coverage disputes and reinsurance matters. The position offers a collaborative and dynamic work environment with opportunities to work on high-stakes cases in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Duties:

  • Represent clients in complex insurance and reinsurance disputes, including coverage actions, regulatory investigations, and litigation involving mass torts, asbestos, environmental liability, and workers' compensation claims.
  • Handle litigation matters from case initiation through trial and settlement, including pre-trial motions and discovery.
  • Advise insurers, reinsurers, and intermediaries on legal risks and strategies.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop case strategies and solutions.
  • Negotiate settlements and engage in dispute resolution.
  • Communicate with clients to provide legal analysis, case updates, and strategic advice throughout the litigation process.

Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of demonstrated litigation experience.
  • Solid experience in handling high-level litigation, including environmental liability, toxic torts, and construction defects.
  • Strong technical, client service, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Experience in drafting legal documents, managing discovery, and representing clients in court proceedings.
  • Connecticut or Massachusetts bar membership in good standing.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in Connecticut or Massachusetts.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including advocacy and client counseling.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in legal research tools such as Lexis or Westlaw.
