Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Trusts & Estates practice group. The role involves working with high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses on various matters, including estate planning, trust administration, and probate. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in drafting estate planning documents, managing complex estate and trust administration, and advising clients on tax strategies.

Location:

  • Hartford, CT

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients regarding estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
  • Draft and review estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and protect assets.
  • Assist with the administration of estates and trusts, including preparing and filing legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and stay current with developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law.
  • Collaborate with clients' financial advisors and accountants to develop comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings related to probate and trust administration as needed.
  • Regular travel to the Bantam office for CT-based attorneys.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and understanding of their unique needs.
  • Meet the firm’s requirement of 1,800 billable hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience as a Trusts and Estates attorney.
  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in the bar.
  • Experience drafting estate planning documents, including various types of trusts, and managing complex estate and trust administration.
  • Knowledge and experience with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to draft clear, comprehensive legal documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to convey complex legal concepts to clients.
  • High organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a diverse workload.
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly.
  • Capability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude in a team-oriented environment.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts bar (or ability to waive in).
