Employment Law Partner - Sacramento, CA

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Sacramento, CA, is looking to hire an experienced Employment Law Partner with over 8 years of expertise in employment litigation, specifically within the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defending PAGA claims and a proven track record in managing complex employment law cases.

Duties:

  • PAGA Litigation:
    • Manage PAGA claims and class action lawsuits, overseeing all phases from legal filings to settlement negotiations and trial preparation.
    • Design and implement legal strategies for PAGA cases, balancing risks and potential settlement outcomes.
    • Supervise discovery processes, depositions, and pretrial preparations.
  • Client Advisory & Compliance:
    • Provide expert counsel on compliance with California labor laws, conducting audits, and advising on best practices to mitigate PAGA-related risks.
    • Help clients develop and refine policies on wage and hour issues, employee classifications, and meal/rest break compliance.
    • Advise on new legislation or case law affecting PAGA claims, keeping clients informed of regulatory changes.
  • Client Relationship & Business Development:
    • Foster and expand relationships with existing clients, identifying new opportunities for business development in the PAGA area.
    • Deliver presentations and workshops on PAGA compliance and litigation to clients.
    • Leverage the firm’s reputation in employment law to generate new leads and build client relationships.
  • Team Supervision & Mentorship:
    • Supervise junior attorneys and staff, ensuring high standards of work quality.
    • Review and approve motions, pleadings, and discovery responses.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment, supporting professional growth and PAGA-related legal expertise within the team.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in employment litigation, specifically PAGA claims and class actions.
  • Proven expertise in managing PAGA and employment law cases, with a background in public entity defense being a plus.
  • Strong research, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity for proactive case management and leadership.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Active membership in the State Bar of California, in good standing.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in California.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of PAGA and class action procedures.
  • Experience in advising clients on compliance with California labor laws.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Proficient in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy.
  • Ability to foster client relationships and business development.
