Job Title: Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney

Job Overview:
A reputable law firm in Westlake Village, CA, seeks a skilled Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney with at least 2 years of experience to join its legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in litigation, including excellent verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities will include managing all aspects of defending workers' compensation claims, including medical benefits, disability, and other coverage issues, primarily for insurance companies, third-party administrators, and employers.

Duties:

  • Evaluate and prepare cases for litigation
  • Conduct discovery and prepare for hearings/depositions
  • Represent clients in hearings and depositions, providing thorough updates and reports
  • Draft pleadings and motions in response to claims
  • Attend Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) appearances
  • Communicate with clients to provide updates on case progress
  • Perform legal research and analyze case law
  • Develop case strategies and recommendations
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel
  • Manage administrative tasks related to legal cases

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in workers' compensation defense
  • Active membership with the California Bar Association
  • Strong litigation skills, including discovery, depositions, and trial preparation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse caseload efficiently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Adept at utilizing legal technologies

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • An active member of the California Bar
