Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Detroit, MI, is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Employment and Labor Litigation team. This position involves representing employers in a variety of labor and employment matters, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, collective bargaining, and more. The successful candidate will work alongside a talented team, handling complex cases while providing strategic legal counsel to clients across different industries.

Duties:

  • Defend employers in cases related to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, FMLA, ADA, and wage and hour laws, including class action lawsuits.
  • Represent clients in non-compete litigation, grievances, arbitrations, and unfair labor practice charges.
  • Advise clients on compliance with state and federal employment laws, ensuring proper drafting and revision of employment policies.
  • Guide on employee matters, such as hiring, discipline, discharge, time off, accommodations, harassment investigations, executive contracts, and employee training.
  • Assist clients with collective bargaining and traditional labor matters.
  • Prepare cases for trial, argue motions, and take depositions.
  • Handle complex legal strategies and present viable courses of action.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in employment and labor law litigation, including depositions, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Substantial experience advising employers on state and federal employment law compliance and policy drafting.
  • Experience handling harassment, discrimination, FMLA, ADA, retaliation, and wage and hour law matters.
  • Proven ability to manage grievances, arbitrations, and unfair labor practice charges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to communicate legal strategies clearly and concisely.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan or eligible for admission by examination or waiver.

Skills:

  • Expertise in employment law litigation and labor relations.
  • Ability to navigate complex legal issues and provide strategic guidance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High-level negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
