Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A law firm based in Columbus, OH, seeks a diligent and proactive Associate Attorney to manage a high-volume caseload involving various debt-related suits. The ideal candidate will review and draft legal documents, ensure compliance, and represent the firm in court as needed. This role requires excellent multitasking abilities, strong communication skills, and proficiency with relevant software tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review drafted pleadings for suits, default judgments, and garnishments for accuracy and attorney e-signature.
  • Complete compliance checklists for each document type to maintain and record meaningful attorney involvement per client requirements.
  • Identify and escalate areas of concern for problem resolution.
  • Draft new suit documents to accommodate additional debt types from clients.
  • Complete client surveys regarding Ohio Statutes, Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure, and Ohio Small Claims Rules as needed.
  • Assist legal support staff with directives to effectuate the legal/litigation process.
  • Occasionally handle mediations, case management conferences, trials, or pre-trials to ensure firm appearances are covered.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
  • Additional licensing in other states (MO, IA, NE, ID, CA, WA, OR, AK, HI, NV) is a plus.
  • Comfortable appearing in court and capable of timely appearances using personal transportation.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with effective multitasking.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Ohio Bar.
  • Additional certifications or bar admissions in other states are advantageous.

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with Adobe PDF.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective multitasking and organizational abilities.
