A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent with a robust technical background in biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceutical technologies, or related fields to join their team in Madison, WI. The ideal candidate will have over three years of experience in patent prosecution and possess the ability to manage complex intellectual property matters effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct comprehensive patent searches and analyze patentability of inventions.
  • Draft and review detailed patent applications, responses to office actions, and other legal documents.
  • Perform due diligence investigations, including providing opinions on patentability, freedom to operate, and validity.
  • Collaborate with inventors, clients, and other stakeholders to collect and analyze technical information for patent applications.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current intellectual property laws and regulations.
  • Manage patent portfolios, including monitoring and addressing issues related to patent maintenance and enforcement.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients on patent-related matters and intellectual property strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and the USPTO, both verbally and in writing.
  • Produce high-quality, timely work products and manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Comply with all firm policies and practices.
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activities, such as working at a computer for extended periods, participating in digital/virtual conference calls, and attending meetings as needed.
  • Perform additional duties, tasks, or projects as assigned by the firm.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong technical background and education in biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceutical technologies, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Strong academic and professional credentials.
  • Registration to practice with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • A technical degree in biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceutical technologies, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
