Job Overview

A law firm based in Fresno, California seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join its Student Services and Disability legal team. This role involves supporting experienced attorneys in a specialized education law practice, with a strong emphasis on disability-related student matters. Duties

  • Assist senior legal team members with case preparation and legal strategy

  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on education and disability-related matters

  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel on issues affecting students in pre-K through 12th grade

  • Participate in case management for administrative hearings and proceedings

  • Support litigation and compliance efforts involving public education agencies

  • Prepare legal documentation and correspondence for matters before regulatory bodies

  • Interact with clients and stakeholders to gather relevant information and communicate legal findings

Requirements

  • 0-5 years of relevant legal experience

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal issues and produce well-organized, clear written work

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to legal problem-solving

  • Familiarity with public education law and administrative procedures preferred

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Admission to the California State Bar, or eligibility for admission

Certifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California

Skills

  • In-depth legal research and writing capabilities

  • Knowledge of special education law, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Familiarity with procedures before the California Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), California Department of Education (CDE), and the U.S. Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is a plus
