Defense Litigation Associate

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm with a nationwide presence is seeking a Defense Litigation Associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team in New York. This associate will focus on NYS Labor Law and personal injury litigation, collaborating with a diverse team across the firm’s multiple offices. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of general liability litigation experience and a strong foundation in Labor Law defense strategies. The role offers hybrid remote work options, with some travel required for depositions and court conferences.

Location:

• New York, NY

Duties:

• Research Labor Law and personal injury issues, collaborating with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies
• Take and defend depositions
• Manage discovery and e-discovery processes
• Draft reports, legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands/responses, motions, and briefs
• Participate in trial and ADR planning and preparation
• Represent clients at courtroom conferences and motion appearances
• Manage day-to-day aspects of Labor Law and personal injury files under supervision
• Maintain a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually

Requirements:

• 3+ years of general liability litigation experience
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Admission to the New York State Bar
• Experience litigating in New York State courts (federal experience is a plus)
• Strong deposition, motion, pleading, and e-discovery experience
• Familiarity with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams for depositions, court conferences, and meetings
• Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed
• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Ability to quickly absorb and process new information
• High standards of performance, professionalism, and dedication
• A positive, cooperative, and flexible attitude
• Military experience is welcome

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar

Skills:

• Strong legal research and writing capabilities
• Deposition, motion, and pleading drafting experience
• E-discovery management
• Excellent verbal communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing platforms
