Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Personal Bankruptcy/Litigation Attorney to join its Houston, TX office. This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in practicing bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7 personal bankruptcy cases, and gaining exposure to cross-disciplinary litigation. The firm handles cases for small business owners, including Chapter 11 sub-chapter V reorganizations and personal bankruptcy filings. New attorneys will receive mentorship, providing an opportunity to quickly gain the skills and experience needed to manage cases independently.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Manage bankruptcy and litigation plans for multiple clients
  • Represent clients in court, including appearances before judges and opposing counsel
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to reach favorable outcomes
  • Handle motions, discovery, depositions, and hearings
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions and legal arguments
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and manage legal calendars
  • Document case activity in Case Management and Billing Systems
  • Collaborate with non-attorney team members, including paralegals, case managers, and legal assistants
  • Seek opportunities to exceed client expectations and improve client outcomes
  • Assist with cross-training in litigation practice areas outside of bankruptcy

Requirements:

  • Licensed Texas Attorney in good standing
  • Ability to prioritize multiple cases and clients effectively
  • Proficient in drafting, arguing motions, and oral advocacy
  • Enjoys representing clients in court
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to collaborate and assist team members
  • Negotiation skills and a focus on mutually beneficial outcomes

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Texas State Bar admission (Required)
