Job Overview:
A prominent law firm located in Williamsburg, VA is seeking a skilled and dedicated Employee Benefits Associate Attorney to join its esteemed ESOPs, Benefits & Compensation team. This team provides expert guidance to a diverse range of clients, including privately held, publicly traded, governmental, and tax-exempt organizations. The focus will be on various employee benefits and compensation matters such as qualified retirement plans, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), nonqualified deferred compensation plans, equity compensation, executive employment agreements, and related ERISA issues. The ideal candidate will contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm's employee benefits practice.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on a broad spectrum of employee benefits and executive compensation issues.

  • Handle matters related to ESOPs, retirement plans, welfare benefits, M&A transactions, and IRS and DOL audits.

  • Provide counsel on executive employment agreements, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, and equity compensation.

  • Build and nurture relationships with clients, delivering high-quality legal services.

  • Support the growth of the ESOPs, Benefits & Compensation team, and its client base.

  • Work independently and proactively on various matters related to employee benefits and executive compensation.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in employee benefits and executive compensation, ideally in a law firm setting.

  • Experience with employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) is a plus.

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Commitment to long-term growth in the field of employee benefits and executive compensation.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Virginia or North Carolina Bar (or eligibility for admission and willingness to maintain good standing).
