Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a dedicated Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, a strong intellectual curiosity, and an interest in shaping and advancing civil rights case law.

Location:

  • Clovis, NM

Duties:

  • Screen potential civil rights cases, conducting in-depth legal research to assess their merits

  • Participate in litigation for civil rights cases from inception to resolution, including drafting and preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions

  • Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances as necessary

  • Work closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and legal teams on case strategy and development

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Active license to practice law

  • 2-5 years of experience in litigation, with a preference for civil rights and/or constitutional law and trial experience

  • Strong research and legal writing skills, particularly in complex motions and case law development

  • Experience in handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals

  • Strong interest in civil rights advocacy and a commitment to advancing civil rights through litigation

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team of attorneys

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities

  • Strong oral advocacy and courtroom skills

  • Ability to handle complex motions and case law development

  • Experience with depositions, court hearings, and appeals

  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse clients
