Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Employee Benefits Associate to join its team. This opportunity is available in either the Chicago or Houston office. The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits, including work with qualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, health and welfare plans, and ACA compliance. Experience with M&A or restructuring within the employee benefits space is preferred, along with a background in related fields such as tax, labor/benefits advising, consulting, or accounting.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel on employee benefits issues, including ERISA, qualified plans, health and welfare plans, and multiemployer pension plans.
  • Advise on ACA compliance and related regulatory matters.
  • Support M&A and restructuring transactions with a focus on employee benefits.
  • Work closely with clients to design and implement benefit plans that comply with legal requirements.
  • Draft and review plan documents, amendments, and related regulatory filings.
  • Assist in advising clients on tax, labor, and other benefits-related matters.

Requirements

  • 1-4 years of experience in employee benefits law, particularly with ERISA.
  • Experience with qualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, health and welfare plans, and ACA compliance.
  • Background in M&A or restructuring within the employee benefits context is highly desirable.
  • Experience in related areas such as tax, labor/benefits advising, consulting, or accounting will be considered.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Illinois or Texas).

Skills

  • Expertise in ERISA and employee benefits law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex projects.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
