Intellectual Property Associate Attorney

A law firm in Alexandria, VA is seeking a highly qualified Intellectual Property Associate Attorney with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field. The role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and international patent offices, along with providing valuable litigation, pre-litigation, and risk management expertise.

Duties:

• Draft patent applications and manage patent prosecution processes before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and global patent offices.
• Conduct thorough patentability searches and analyses.
• Provide strategic intellectual property advice and guidance to clients.
• Assist in intellectual property litigation and pre-litigation activities.
• Manage and oversee intellectual property portfolios for clients.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.
• Admission to practice law in Virginia or eligible for admission by waiver.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO is mandatory.
• 4-8 years of hands-on experience in patent prosecution, focusing on Organic Chemistry or related disciplines.

Education:

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.

Certifications (Preferred):

Certification in Intellectual Property Law.
