Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Wilmington, DE, seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Patent Agent to join its intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in Organic Chemistry or a related field and demonstrate proficiency in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.

Job Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and various international patent offices.
• Conduct prior art searches and analyze technical literature to support patentability assessments.
• Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and clients to strategize on patent portfolio development and management.
• Assist in patent infringement and validity analyses.
• Stay updated with changes in patent laws and regulations.

Requirements:

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.
• Ability to think critically, quickly grasp new technologies, and articulate complex technical concepts clearly in writing.
• Preferably some experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
• Must be registered to practice before the USPTO or willing to sit for the registration exam.

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Proficiency in patent databases and search tools.

Education and Certifications:

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field.
