Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney to join their family and child welfare law practice based in Austin, Texas. This position involves managing a diverse caseload of family law matters, with the opportunity to gain additional experience in estate planning and fertility law. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing top-notch legal services to clients while adhering to the highest professional standards. Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in a variety of family law cases, including divorce, custody, and child welfare matters.
  • Handle a docket of private family law clients and court-appointed cases for CPS lawsuits.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Texas Family Code and Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Complete approximately 30 hours of continuing legal education to become court-appointed counsel.
  • Bill an average of 30+ hours weekly for private and/or court-appointed cases.
  • Conduct legal research and draft necessary documents, motions, and pleadings.
  • Attend court hearings and represent clients professionally.
  • Collaborate with clients, court officials, and other attorneys professionally.
  • Manage time effectively while multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel within Texas may be required.

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in the state of Texas.
  • In good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Familiarity with civil law, statutory law, and constitutional law.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Google Programs, and legal research software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy workload.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Must have a valid Texas law license.

Certifications:

  • Completion of continuing legal education (30 hours) to qualify for court appointments in CPS cases.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and tact when handling sensitive family law matters.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
