Post-Conviction Relief Attorney

Job Overview:

A prominent law firm is seeking a dedicated and experienced Post-Conviction Relief Attorney for a remote opportunity. This is an ideal position for a criminal defense or immigration attorney with litigation and/or appellate experience looking to further their career in post-conviction relief law. The attorney will report to the Supervising Attorney and work on various post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and more. This role also includes managing a caseload, client interactions, and collaborating with a skilled team of attorneys and legal assistants.

Location:

• Rancho Cucamonga, CA 

Duties:

• Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents related to post-conviction relief cases.
• Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
• Engage in immigration law matters in connection with post-conviction relief cases, interacting with both criminal and immigration practices.
• Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide strategic advice following each hearing.
• Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing, for other criminal attorneys within the firm.
• Manage court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and perform legal research.
• Analyze case outcomes based on legal precedents and provide legal analysis for clients to determine case benefits.
• Manage and organize a caseload effectively.

Requirements:

• Experience:
  • Criminal defense or immigration law experience, particularly in post-conviction relief cases.
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
• Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and move cases forward efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent legal research and writing abilities.
  • Team player who is open to collaboration and strategizing with associates.
• Languages:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active bar admission (law graduates awaiting bar admission may also be considered).
