You will gain invaluable experience in federal tax law while collaborating closely with industry leaders and gaining exposure to both complex financings and M&A transactions in the renewable energy sector.

Duties

  • Assist in advising clients on tax-related aspects of renewable energy projects, including tax credits and incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act and related legislation.
  • Work alongside senior team members to structure and close complex project finance and M&A transactions.
  • Support clients through tax planning and compliance, particularly in the context of energy transition projects such as wind, solar, and geothermal initiatives.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to tax structuring, project financing, and partnership arrangements.
  • Engage in research and analysis of tax issues affecting renewable energy, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients in the renewable energy sector, including developers, investors, and lenders.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with renewable energy tax incentives, including credits and incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act, is highly beneficial.
  • Strong academic credentials and proven legal skills.
  • Experience with partnership taxation and related matters would be advantageous.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while providing high-quality legal services.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • An LLM in Taxation is preferred but not required.
  • Admission to the bar in New York or eligibility to gain admission.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of federal tax law and renewable energy tax incentives.
  • Proven ability to handle complex legal transactions, particularly in the project finance and energy sectors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to draft and present clear, concise legal arguments.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management capabilities, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a busy legal practice.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health insurance options (medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance).
  • Access to pre-tax benefits such as health savings and flexible spending accounts.
  • 401(k) savings plan with firm matching contributions and profit-sharing plans (eligibility required).
  • Generous paid time off, including 20+ days of vacation depending on role and tenure.
  • Paid parental leave, allowing for a minimum of 14 weeks of paid leave for bonding with newborn or adopted children.
  • Opportunities for career development and hands-on legal experience in the renewable energy sector.
  • A supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that encourages work-life balance and professional growth.

This opportunity offers a chance to grow in a dynamic field and collaborate with leading experts in renewable energy law, all while being part of a law firm that emphasizes professional development and a supportive team-oriented culture.
