Job Overview:A reputable law firm is seeking a dedicated Criminal Defense Attorney to join its Criminal Division. This attorney will provide legal representation to clients facing criminal charges, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, in both local and federal courts. The ideal candidate will have strong legal expertise, excellent communication skills, and a client-focused approach to criminal defense.Location:Johnson City, TN Duties:Manage assigned criminal cases from initial client meetings through local and federal court appearances.Provide ongoing client communication, including intake review, case updates, and preparation for hearings.Represent clients in various court proceedings such as arraignments, pretrial conferences, and motion hearings.Negotiate settlements or plea deals on behalf of clients.Develop case strategies through legal research and apply legal principles to present facts effectively in court.Draft and file legal pleadings, motions, and other necessary legal documents with support from the Criminal Support Team.Review and assess the viability of potential new client cases, provide quotes for representation, and manage client agreements and payment plans.Maintain case files and track case progress using legal management software like Lead Docket, Filevine, and others.Requirements:1–3 years of criminal law experience.Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite and legal management software (Filevine, Vine Sign, Law Pay, etc.).Ability to handle large case volumes and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting legal arguments clearly and persuasively.Ability to travel periodically to various counties for legal hearings.Strong client management skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.Education, Certifications, and Skills:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.Active license to practice law in Tennessee, in good standing with the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.Proven experience in quoting and selling legal services, managing client contracts, and handling financial transactions.Professional demeanor in interactions with clients and the public.Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage high-pressure situations.Conversational Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.Benefits:Competitive compensation based on experience.Opportunities for professional growth and career development within a supportive team environment.Exposure to diverse criminal defense cases and client types.
