Job Overview: A law firm in New York City seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join their team as an Entry-Level Chemistry Technology Specialist or Patent Agent. The ideal candidate will have 0-3 years of patent prosecution experience, possess an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in Chemistry, and demonstrate strong academic credentials. The role involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications in diverse areas such as medicinal chemistry, small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science, and drug discovery.

Duties:

  • Conducting thorough research in the field of Chemistry to support patent prosecution activities.
  • Collaborating with inventors and legal teams to understand and articulate technical aspects of inventions.
  • Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications focusing on medicinal chemistry, small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science, and drug discovery.
  • Analyzing and responding to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in patent law and relevant scientific advancements.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in Chemistry.
  • Strong academic credentials with a proven track record of excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Patent Bar admission is preferred

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Chemistry with a focus on medicinal chemistry, small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science, and drug discovery.
  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches and analyzing prior art.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
