A law firm in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Patent Attorney with expertise in Biotechnology and/or Chemistry. The candidate will collaborate with world-class inventors and innovators across various industries, contributing to patent searches, applications, and the management of intellectual property portfolios. The role requires a JD, active U.S. attorney licensure, and 3-5 years of experience in patent prosecution.

 

Duties:

  • Work with inventors and innovators in diverse industries to conduct patent searches and analyses.
  • Review and understand advances in technology, particularly in biotechnology and chemistry.
  • Prepare and file patent applications with the USPTO and internationally.
  • Contribute to crafting and managing intellectual property (IP) and patent portfolios for clients.
  • Collaborate with formal advisors and have the opportunity to request an advisor change annually.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active attorney licensure in a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Eligibility to waive into the D.C. Bar or willingness and eligibility to sit for the D.C. Bar exam.
  • Master's or PhD preferred in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, organic chemistry, molecular genetics, human genetics, chemical engineering, immunology, or related scientific discipline.
  • USPTO registration number preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience practicing patent prosecution at another law firm.
  • Strong foundation in intellectual property (IP) and patent law.
  • Previous wet lab experience preferred.
  • Stellar academic credentials.
