A law firm is seeking a Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Agent with a strong technical background in biological sciences. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, performing due diligence investigations, and managing patent portfolios. The role requires exceptional client service skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to lead projects and collaborate with others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications focused on biotechnology innovations.
  • Provide strategic advice on the development and management of clients' patent portfolios.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and due diligence investigations for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing deals.
  • Prepare responses to office actions and represent clients in front of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent offices.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and clients to develop comprehensive patent strategies that support business objectives.
  • Evaluate intellectual property rights for biotechnology companies, providing guidance on patent infringement, validity, and licensing opportunities.
  • Stay current with patent law developments, particularly in the biotechnology and life sciences fields, and apply this knowledge to advise clients.
  • Assist in opposition and appeal proceedings when required.
  • Maintain strong client relationships by providing proactive, high-quality service and tailored IP strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related discipline.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting due diligence investigations, and managing patent portfolios, preferably within a law firm setting.

  • Strong technical knowledge of biological sciences with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear legal and technical advice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with clients and colleagues.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor junior staff.
  • Attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset.

Additional Desirable Attributes:

  • Prior experience in a law firm or legal setting, particularly in intellectual property law, is preferred.
