Job Title: Student Services and Disabilities Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Cerritos, CA is seeking a motivated and skilled Associate Attorney to join its Student Services and Disabilities practice group. The ideal candidate will have 0-5 years of experience, with a strong background in research, writing, and client interaction. This role offers an opportunity to work with senior associates, counsel, and partners, focusing on various issues impacting students in K-12 education.

Duties:

  • Assist senior attorneys in handling cases related to special education, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other disability-related issues.
  • Provide legal counsel on student-related matters, including disability rights and discrimination cases.
  • Engage in litigation related to educational disabilities and collaborate with government agencies such as the California Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), the California Department of Education (CDE), and the Federal Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft memos, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Support attorneys in managing ongoing cases and client interactions related to student services and disabilities.

Requirements:

  • 0-5 years of experience in law, with a focus on education, disability law, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team of legal professionals.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California (or ability to obtain certification upon passing the bar exam).

Skills:

  • Expertise in research, writing, and legal analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with special education laws, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
