The firm specializes in family law and criminal defense, serving the Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. This role offers the opportunity to work with clients navigating the complexities of family court while providing support in achieving positive outcomes. The position offers flexibility, with options for in-person, hybrid, or remote work, and requires participation in regular firm meetings at the downtown Charleston office.

Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of family law cases, including discovery, pleadings, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Conduct client meetings and provide strategic recommendations to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Handle pretrial and motion hearings, trials, and mediation or collaboration processes.
  • Delegate tasks to paralegals and legal assistants, overseeing their progress and ensuring quality.
  • Independently manage cases and maintain accountability for deadlines and case progression.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to develop case strategies and ensure compliance with procedural rules.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in family law.
  • Experience handling family law matters such as divorce, custody, equitable distribution, and parenting plans.
  • Familiarity with the Rules of Evidence and courtroom procedures.
  • Confidence and competence in client representation in court and during negotiations.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • An active member of the South Carolina Bar or the ability to become licensed in South Carolina.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in South Carolina.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficient in case management, time management, and organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build client rapport.
  • Knowledge of financial statements and family law principles, including equitable distribution.
  • Team-oriented with the flexibility to assist in various aspects of case preparation as needed.
