Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled and dedicated Patent Agent to join its growing intellectual property practice. This position requires an individual with strong technical expertise in the field of medical devices and bioengineering, ideally with knowledge in mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), or computer science. The role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, assisting in preparing opinions, and conducting prior art searches.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the medical devices and bioengineering sectors.
  • Review and respond to office actions from the USPTO.
  • Assist with the preparation of legal opinions related to intellectual property matters.
  • Conduct prior art searches to support patent applications and opinions.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to ensure that patent applications are aligned with business goals and technical specifications.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
  • Proven expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Experience in responding to office actions and assisting in the preparation of opinions.
  • Solid understanding of prior art search techniques and methods.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) is a plus.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice before the USPTO (required).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Familiarity with patent search tools and intellectual property software.
