Job Overview:
A law firm in Columbus, OH is seeking a Mid-to-Senior Level Employee Benefits Associate or Employee Benefits Counsel to handle a range of employee benefits matters. This role requires expertise in retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation, with a focus on compliance and legal issues related to ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and other relevant regulations.

Duties:

  • Advise on employee benefits issues, including qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation.
  • Lead due diligence and transition matters for employee benefits in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Assist clients with legal compliance under ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, and other federal and state laws.
  • Draft and negotiate benefits-related agreements and documents, including plan documents, service provider agreements, and employee communications.
  • Collaborate with legal, human resources, and finance teams on benefits administration, fiduciary responsibilities, and legal compliance.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) with active Bar membership.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law.
  • Extensive experience with ERISA and related laws.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits, including due diligence and transition support for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
  • Active Bar membership.
