A law firm seeks an experienced ERISA/Taft-Hartley Attorney to join their team in Cerritos, CA. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex employee welfare benefit plans, focusing on Taft-Hartley Trusts and Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Associations (VEBAs). The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in ERISA law, particularly as it applies to public and private sector benefit plans, and will be involved in drafting plan documents, attending trust meetings, and handling ERISA litigation matters.

Duties

  • Represent clients in the preparation and review of plan documents for Taft-Hartley Trusts and VEBAs
  • Attend trust meetings and provide legal counsel during discussions
  • Draft various legal documents related to employee welfare benefit plans
  • Offer advice on compliance with DOL and IRS regulations regarding benefit plans
  • Assist with ERISA litigation, including supporting case preparation and representing clients in legal proceedings
  • Collaborate with public and private sector trust fund clients to ensure the proper administration of employee benefits
  • Travel regionally to attend trust meetings as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in ERISA laws, regulations, and industry standards

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Taft-Hartley Trusts or VEBAs
  • Strong working knowledge of DOL and IRS rules related to employee welfare benefit plans
  • Experience drafting plan documents and advising on benefit plan compliance
  • ERISA litigation experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with public sector benefit plans is a plus
  • Ability to travel regionally for client meetings and trust fund activities

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active state law license
