Job Overview
A law firm seeks a dedicated and motivated Family Law Associate Attorney to join their team in Rockford, IL. This role involves working on a variety of sensitive family law matters, including divorce, child custody, domestic violence, and child abuse cases. As part of a collaborative team, you will provide expert legal advice, conduct research, draft legal documents, and assist with client representation in family law disputes. The firm is looking for a self-starter with prior family law experience to deliver high-quality legal services while maintaining a compassionate approach toward clients navigating challenging life circumstances.

Duties

  • Draft legal documents including contracts, motions, and briefs
  • Perform in-depth legal research to support case strategies
  • Prepare for and attend legal proceedings, including hearings and trials
  • Represent clients in divorce cases, child custody disputes, and other family law matters
  • Facilitate the division of marital assets and other property issues
  • Offer strategic legal counsel in collaboration with senior attorneys
  • Advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients in legal settlements
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date client records
  • Supervise junior staff, including paralegals and administrative assistants, ensuring efficient case management

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois
  • Additional license to practice in Wisconsin is a plus
  • Proven ability to represent clients on both sides of family law cases (plaintiffs and defendants)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving abilities
  • Team-oriented, with a collaborative attitude toward case strategy and client service

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active Illinois State Bar membership
  • Additional Wisconsin State Bar membership is preferred
