A law firm in Houston, TX, seeks a dedicated and experienced Consular Processing Immigration Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immigration law, including experience with removal defense, family-based petitions, and consular processing. The role involves managing a diverse caseload, representing clients in various immigration proceedings, and working closely with law enforcement and community organizations to stay updated on changes in immigration law.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a workload of cases efficiently, including preparing and reviewing immigration applications and petitions.
  • Visit and conduct intakes with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and make necessary adjustments to immigration applications/packets.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic immigration consultations, determining necessary strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients to identify potential case benefits.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload effectively and move legal cases forward.
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained cases, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred.

  • Strong record of advancing legal cases and strategic case management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas or eligibility for licensure in Texas.
