A law firm with a strong regional presence is actively seeking a results-driven attorney to join its legal team in Detroit, Michigan. This position centers around financial distress matters, offering the right candidate the opportunity to counsel clients through one of the most sensitive areas of law: debt relief and reorganization. With a focus on meaningful client interactions and ethical advocacy, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a solutions-oriented legal environment.
Lead clients through the legal process of insolvency resolution, offering practical guidance and strategic direction from intake through discharge or settlement.
Draft, refine, and file a variety of legal documents related to personal and business debt matters, including voluntary petitions, repayment plans, objections, and motions.
Appear before courts and administrative bodies to represent clients in hearings, meetings of creditors, and other key proceedings.
Interpret and apply relevant local, state, and federal statutes, ensuring compliance while maximizing client outcomes.
Work alongside internal teams to manage deadlines, gather documentation, and facilitate efficient case flow.
Keep informed of updates to bankruptcy legislation, court rules, and procedural requirements that may impact clients in the state of Michigan.
Juris Doctor (JD) degree awarded by an accredited institution of higher learning.
Active licensure to practice law in the state of Michigan and be in good professional standing.
Between 1 and 6 years of hands-on experience in bankruptcy law or closely related financial legal practice areas.
Familiarity with Chapters 7 and 13 is strongly preferred; exposure to business bankruptcies or complex debt cases is a plus.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into practical advice.
Detail-oriented with a high standard of accuracy in legal writing and documentation.
Organized and efficient—capable of balancing multiple active case files with minimal supervision.
Strategic thinker who demonstrates empathy and professionalism in client-facing scenarios.
Adept at navigating court processes and advocating in both oral and written forms.
