Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a highly experienced Health Care Law Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience advising clients on regulatory and transactional matters within the healthcare sector. This position offers a blend of hands-on client work, including advising on federal and state compliance, fraud and abuse, licensure, and privacy issues, as well as long-term projects like Certificates of Need and government investigations. The role operates independently with minimal supervision, but the successful candidate will work within a collaborative team environment with ample support from the firm when unique challenges arise.

Duties:

  • Respond to inquiries from federal and Maryland agencies regarding issues such as licensure, fraud and abuse, and privacy concerns.
  • Advise clients on proactive fraud and abuse compliance strategies.
  • Assist in structuring mergers, acquisitions, and employment agreements within the healthcare sector.
  • Draft policy documents and prepare state and federal program applications.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to institutional clients and individual health care practitioners navigating state and federal regulations.
  • Take the lead on long-term projects, such as advising on Certificates of Need and handling government investigations.
  • Collaborate with the health care law team to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing clients, and gradually expand the client base.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in health care law, particularly in regulatory and transactional matters.
  • Experience with advising clients on state and federal compliance, fraud, and abuse matters.
  • Administrative hearing experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a legal team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse client base.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license or eligibility for licensure in Maryland (required).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of health care regulations, including fraud and abuse laws, licensure, and privacy issues.
  • Strong drafting skills for policy documents and legal applications.
  • Ability to advise on mergers, acquisitions, and employment arrangements within the healthcare industry.
