A law firm seeks an experienced and highly skilled Senior International Trade Attorney to join its team in Niles, MI. This position is perfect for a professional with at least 10 years of experience in corporate transactions, focusing on international trade issues. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with tariff classification, country of origin marking, customs valuation, and trade remedy duties. You will have the opportunity to advise clients on compliance with U.S. trade regulations, including those under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and handle complex regulatory matters related to international trade.

Duties:

  • Provide expert advice to clients on compliance with U.S. import and export regulations, including tariff classification, customs valuation, trade remedies, and free trade agreements.
  • Manage corporate transactions involving controlled technologies and international trade regulations.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to ensure regulatory compliance with changing international trade laws.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents about international trade and corporate transactions.
  • Represent clients in regulatory matters, including obtaining necessary licenses and approvals for cross-border transactions.
  • Stay updated on developments in international trade law and guide clients on emerging regulatory challenges.
  • Assist clients in navigating trade remedy applications, such as USMCA, antidumping/countervailing duties (AD/CVD), and Section 301 tariffs.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience in corporate transactions with a focus on international trade law.
  • Proficiency with trade preference programs and trade remedy applications, including USMCA, AD/CVD, Section 301, and tariff preference programs.
  • Expertise in U.S. trade regulations, customs compliance, and regulatory matters related to the export and import of controlled technologies.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for clients.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal teams and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with navigating complex regulations, such as ITAR, EAR, CFIUS, and OFAC Sanctions Programs, is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Michigan Bar or Washington D.C. Bar.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in international trade law, including U.S. import/export control laws and trade remedy matters.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage client relationships and provide strategic legal advice.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle complex regulatory compliance issues related to international trade.
