Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an experienced attorney with a focus on construction law to join its team in Houston, TX. This role offers a unique opportunity for a highly organized and analytical professional to work closely with supervising attorneys, managing cases, developing legal strategies, and communicating with clients. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of case management, from legal research to attending hearings, mediations, trials, and arbitrations, while upholding high ethical standards and delivering outstanding results for clients.

Duties:

  • Maintain a minimum of 35 billable hours per week.
  • Assist supervising attorney with various tasks, including:
    • Legal research.
    • Drafting pleadings and motions.
    • Ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
    • Attending hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Manage client relationships by maintaining regular communication and responding promptly to inquiries, typically within 24 hours.
  • Prepare for strategy meetings by being knowledgeable about case facts, upcoming hearings, deadlines, and trial dates.
  • Evaluate cases continuously to ensure the client’s goals are being met efficiently.
  • Prepare cases for trial and assist with trial proceedings.
  • Stay current with legal developments through continuing legal education.

Requirements:

  • 4-7 years of experience in construction law or related litigation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective time management with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when necessary.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Remote work experience is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law and/or membership in the State Bar of Texas.

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong research and drafting capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent client communication and relationship management skills.
