A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a skilled Tax Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience in transactional tax matters and tax controversy. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience with federal income tax and should ideally have experience with state taxes and tax-exempt organizations. Candidates must demonstrate strong research and writing abilities and have an excellent academic record from an ABA-accredited law school. Bar admission in Washington, DC is required.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on federal income tax issues, including compliance, planning, and dispute resolution.
  • Address and manage state tax matters, offering advice on compliance, planning, and conflict resolution.
  • Represent clients in tax-related controversies before federal and state tax authorities.
  • Advise clients on the tax implications and strategies for transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including tax opinions, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to support tax-related strategies and client advice.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure accurate and timely client counsel.
  • Collaborate with clients and other legal professionals to develop effective tax strategies.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in handling transactional tax matters and tax controversy in a law firm setting.
  • Significant experience with federal income tax.
  • Experience with state tax issues and tax-exempt organizations is a significant plus.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Excellent academic background from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission required for the jurisdiction of practice (Washington, DC).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in Washington, DC, or eligibility to obtain admission.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of federal income tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in managing state tax issues and familiarity with tax-exempt organizations.
  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
