Job Title: Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent to join their intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors, engineers, and product developers to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications. The candidate must have a strong academic background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to analyze complex technical concepts in emerging technologies. This role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and the capacity to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patent preparation and prosecution for software, artificial intelligence, networking, IOT, and related technologies.
  • Review and analyze invention disclosures to determine patentability and advise clients on strategies for obtaining strong patent protection.
  • Prepare high-quality patent applications, including detailed descriptions and claims.
  • Respond to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) office actions and manage client expectations regarding patent application timelines and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with inventors, product designers, and engineers to gather technical information and ensure comprehensive protection of inventions.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments to advise clients on invention strengths and weaknesses.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends and changes in intellectual property law, particularly relating to software, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely submission of documents to the USPTO.
  • Mentor junior patent agents and guide best practices in patent drafting and prosecution.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience in a law firm or in-house setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with software-related technologies and one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, IOT, networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to draft high-quality patent applications.
  • High level of academic achievement in a related technical field (physics, electrical engineering, or computer science).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proven track record of successful patent prosecution, particularly in complex technical fields.
  • Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.

Education and Certifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is required.
  • Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
