A law firm in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate Attorney to join their Tax Controversy & Litigation Department. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with federal tax controversy disputes, including audits, appeals, and litigation, and possess strong knowledge of substantive federal income tax issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Tax Controversy & Litigation Department Practice Group Leader and the Managing Shareholder.
  • Handle federal tax controversy disputes, including audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Advise clients on substantive federal income tax issues.
  • Assist with corporate and partnership tax matters.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to tax controversies.
  • Represent clients in IRS, Tax Court, and other administrative proceedings.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex tax issues.
  • Provide clear and effective communication in both oral and written forms.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of work.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of federal tax controversy experience.
  • Practical experience with federal tax controversy disputes, including audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Knowledge of substantive federal income tax issues.
  • Corporate and partnership tax experience is a plus.
  • Law firm, accounting firm, IRS, Tax Court, and/or Department of Justice (Tax Division) experience is preferred.
  • Excellent academic and employment credentials.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be admitted to practice in at least one state (admission in Pennsylvania is a plus).

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in accounting, CPA license, or LL.M. in Tax is helpful.
