A law firm in San Jose, CA is seeking an experienced Intake Attorney to support various firm initiatives related to new business intake and case evaluations. This role involves collaborating with the intake team to assess the firm's capability to represent potential clients, managing the intake process, and ensuring compliance with ethical and procedural standards. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience as a licensed attorney and will demonstrate a strong work ethic, excellent client service skills, and a willingness to engage in courtroom activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the intake team to evaluate potential clients and the firm's ability to represent them.
  • Execute processes related to new client review, eligibility identification, and potential retainer evaluation.
  • Process the intake of prospective new clients, including speaking with potential clients, performing case evaluations, and assisting intake specialists in answering legal questions.
  • Identify any conflicts of interest and assist in drafting engagement letters and necessary waivers.
  • Ensure accurate collection and maintenance of records related to new client intake, including conflicts records, intake forms, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to mitigate potential risks associated with new business intake and client-tendered outside counsel guidelines.
  • Utilize internal and external research tools to identify risks associated with new client intake.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert on conflict of interest and matters related to client intake, new matters, and lateral conflict clearance.
  • Work closely with the Firm's ethics officer to ensure best practices in engagement letter development and implementation, and adherence to engagement letter terms.
  • Maintain knowledge of firm trends and developments to enhance client engagement processes.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the Client Intake Manager or the Firm's ethics officer.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active California State Bar license and in good standing.
  • Preferably 5+ years of experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Civil Procedure.
  • Familiarity with ethical, legal, and risk management rules, with a willingness to learn substantive law.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 360, Adobe, Excel, and CRM systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to function effectively in a service-oriented environment and collaborate professionally with attorneys, staff, and co-workers.
  • Desire and ability to make court appearances, argue motions, and participate in hearings.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in California.
