A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior to Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their Fort Lauderdale, FL office. The ideal candidate will have strong academic credentials, industry experience, and excellent writing and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications for product design, user interface, and various cutting-edge technologies.
  • Conduct thorough patent searches and analyses to assess patentability and infringement risks.
  • Collaborate with clients, inventors, and technical experts to gather information and provide guidance on intellectual property protection strategies.
  • Draft and review patent applications, responses to office actions, and related legal documents.
  • Conduct interviews with USPTO examiners to advocate for patent approval.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on patent-related issues, including licensing, portfolio management, and litigation support.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, particularly in software, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Assist senior attorneys in complex patent matters and provide mentorship to junior associates as needed.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate legal environment.
  • Strong academic record with a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following technology areas:
    • Software-related technologies
    • Artificial intelligence-related technologies
    • IoT, networking, and related technologies
    • Quantum technologies
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, concise language.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Admission to the Florida Bar (preferred).
