Duties

  • Conduct interviews with inventors to gather information on new patentable ideas.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the biotechnology and molecular biology fields.
  • Investigate and prepare non-infringement and invalidity opinions.
  • Provide technical support in patent litigation and assist in client counseling.
  • Review both patent and non-patent literature for essential concepts.
  • Manage significant client responsibilities while maintaining high-quality service to domestic and foreign clients.
  • Communicate effectively with different levels of staff and management.
  • Work autonomously when required, while collaborating with a broader legal team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in life sciences, with expertise in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Strong grasp of new technical teachings and concepts in biotechnology and molecular biology.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Education

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Strong academic background with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at all levels of education.

Certifications

  • U.S. Patent and Trademark Office admission is required.

Skills

  • Proficiency in technical writing and patent documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and evaluate patent literature.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey complex ideas.
