Job Overview

A law firm in Elkhart, IN, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Litigation Attorney to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced litigation practice involving frequent court appearances, client interaction, and case management. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on complex litigation matters, primarily in northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Appear in court for hearings, trials, depositions, and mediations
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Review investigative information and prepare necessary legal documents, including briefs and correspondence
  • Attend hearings, trials, depositions, and mediations in northern IN and southwest MI
  • Engage in frequent telephone and in-person interactions with client representatives, courts, opposing attorneys, insureds, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses
  • Communicate with attorneys, insurance claim representatives, and others to negotiate case resolutions
  • Perform online research and prepare research memoranda as needed
  • Evaluate cases, exercise judgment to determine effective solutions, and discuss potential solutions and recommendations with client representatives
  • Update the electronic case management system with new file developments according to internal case management procedures
  • Oversee and collaborate with paralegals and support staff
  • Manage multiple deadlines and due dates effectively
  • Perform other tasks as needed to support the litigation team

Requirements

  • 3-7 years of litigation experience
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana
  • Desire to excel in a fast-paced litigation practice involving frequent court appearances
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, managing competing priorities and a fluid schedule
  • Ability to work well with a variety of personalities in a team environment
  • Comfortable using a variety of computer programs to improve efficiency
  • Moot court or other litigation experience required

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana
