Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Finance and Restructuring Litigation Associate to join its Native American litigation team. This position offers the opportunity to represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in complex legal matters surrounding tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination. The associate will also have the opportunity to work on complex commercial and construction disputes. This role is ideal for candidates with experience or strong interest in Federal Indian Law and litigation.

Location: New York City, NY 

Duties:

  • Represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in matters related to tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination.
  • Litigate complex commercial and construction disputes.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Conduct legal research to support litigation strategy.
  • Assist in preparing for and participating in trial, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments.
  • Manage cases from inception through resolution, collaborating with other attorneys and clients.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of litigation experience, with a focus on Federal Indian Law and administrative law preferred.
  • Interest in Native American law is highly desirable.
  • Experience in trial preparation, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the position is based.

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
  • Experience managing litigation cases from start to finish.
  • Strong verbal communication and client interaction skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
