Patent Agent - Electrical Engineering & Software

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with expertise in electrical engineering, software, or a related field to join its Electrical Engineering & Software Team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of intellectual property matters, including drafting and prosecuting patents, with a focus on computer science and electrical engineering technologies. The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years of experience and be a member of the USPTO. Candidates with networking, wireless technology experience, or design engineering experience will be given preference. The role offers flexibility with multiple office locations and competitive compensation.

Location:

• Sunnyvale, CA

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patents related to electrical engineering, software, and other technologies
• Provide legal counsel regarding patent portfolio management and strategy
• Represent clients in patent litigation and enforce patent rights
• Collaborate with inventors and engineers to ensure thorough and accurate patent applications
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
• Participate in patent litigation and provide support during trial preparation
• Work closely with clients to develop patent strategies that align with business objectives

Requirements:

• 2-6 years of experience in intellectual property, specifically patent prosecution and litigation
• Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
• Design engineering experience with a chip company is a plus
• Preference for candidates with experience in networking, software, and wireless technologies (e.g., 3G/4G/5G)
• Must be admitted to the USPTO
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills
• Strong academic credentials with excellent organizational and analytical abilities

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Certifications:

• Must be a member of the USPTO

Skills:

• Expertise in patent prosecution, including drafting and filing patent applications
• Strong understanding of patent litigation processes
• Knowledge of electrical engineering, software, and related technologies
