Job Overview
A law firm based in Kansas City, MO, is seeking an experienced Trademark Attorney to join their dynamic legal team. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to a practice that represents clients in trademark matters and disputes on a regional, national, and international basis. This role requires a candidate with a strong background in trademark law, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will also bring knowledge of related areas such as advertising law, intellectual property licensing, and social media regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel regarding trademark clearance, filing strategy, and prosecution for clients in various industries.
• Conduct trademark enforcement investigations and draft cease and desist letters related to trademark infringement matters.
• Negotiate and draft co-existence and settlement agreements in trademark disputes.
• Manage and develop trademark portfolios for both domestic and international clients.
• Advise clients on the protection and enforcement of their intellectual property rights in regional, national, and international markets.
• Conduct risk assessments and counsel clients on trademark disputes, including potential litigation strategies.
• Support transactional work in the areas of advertising law, intellectual property licensing, technology licensing, copyright, and social media.
• Conduct thorough legal research, draft legal memoranda, and prepare pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Collaborate with other attorneys and legal teams on intellectual property-related matters.
• Stay updated on relevant legal developments and precedents in trademark law.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in trademark law.
• Active law license in good standing.
• 3-5 years of experience in trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement investigations, and dispute resolution.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating co-existence and settlement agreements.
• Transactional experience in advertising law, intellectual property and technology licensing, copyright, and social media is a plus.
• Strong understanding of U.S. and international trademark laws and regulations.
• Excellent research, writing, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to handle a high-volume workload and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Strong client relationship management skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal issues effectively.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Strong academic credentials, with a focus on intellectual property law or related fields.

Certifications

• Active Bar membership in the state of Missouri or ability to be admitted to practice in Missouri.
