Job Overview: A law firm seeks a passionate and dynamic Immigration Associate Attorney to join its team in Elizabeth, NJ. The role requires an attorney with expertise in immigration law who can manage a fast-paced caseload, maintain strong client relationships, and stay updated on legal changes. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is highly preferred, as well as the ability to handle all aspects of immigration law cases from start to finish.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in immigration cases before USCIS, EOIR, and BIA.
  • Attend and represent clients at USCIS interviews and Immigration Court hearings.
  • Maintain consistent and effective communication with clients.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents, briefs, memos, pleadings, and appeals.
  • Prepare asylum applications, withholding of removal, and claims for relief under the Torture Convention.
  • Advise clients on complex immigration legal matters.
  • Oversee and assist legal assistants in the preparation of cases.
  • Ensure quality and consistency across all case work, meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys in the firm to share case details and strategies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases efficiently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-volume caseloads.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar license to practice law in the United States (New Jersey Bar preferred).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with clients and legal teams.
  • Secondary language skills in Spanish or Portuguese are highly preferred.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks in a high-turnover environment.
